Location

Kazakhstan is the world's largest landlocked country, and it's located in Central Asia. It shares borders with Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, and it also has a significant portion of the Caspian Sea coast.


Size

Covering an area of 2,724,900 square kilometers, Kazakhstan is the ninth-largest country in the world by area.


Population

Kazakhstan has a population of about 19 million people.


Capital

The country’s capital is Astana, previously known as Nur-Sultan. The capital was moved from Almaty to Nur-Sultan (then called Akmola) in 1997.


Economy

Kazakhstan has the largest and strongest performing economy in Central Asia. It's supported by vast natural resources including oil, gas, and minerals, such as copper and zinc. It's also a significant exporter of wheat and livestock.


Languages and Ethnic Groups

The official language of Kazakhstan is Kazakh, part of the Turkic family of languages. Russian is also widely spoken and understood.
